Inspo Trend Alert: Scallops Everything

Scallops are popping up everywhere in the design world. Both Emily Henderson and Remodelista have declared a “Trend Watch” for scallops. It’s fun, whimsical, and it makes everything feel a little bit more special. Scallops are popping up in furniture and lighting design, and upholstery. I am here for all of it! Let’s dive in.

FURNITURE & TEXTILES

Scallops on furniture can be seen in the upholstery or with harder materials like wood and wicker. I have loved seeing scallops pop up on headboards and chairs, as well as dressers and tables. No matter where I see it, it always feels sweet, thoughtful, and soulful.

HARD SURFACES

I am smitten with these scalloped stone backsplashes, both completed by Matilda Goad. I love the idea of incorporating scallops into any area of the home and counter backsplashes seem like the most unexpected way! Other easy ways are shelves, trim work, and even the lip of a counter would be so fun and pretty in a scalloped edge.

Paint

Paint is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to bring in scallops. I love the idea of adding this to a nursery or any room that could benefit from a bit of whimsy and fun. The way Sarah Sherman Samuel incorporates scallops around the doorway at Gaia Cafe (photographed for Domino Magazine). And can we have a moment for the doorway and gorgeous rose colored home of Aileen from HomemadeHappinest Instagram? Positively smitten.

Lighting & Accents

Scalloped lighting is so easy to add with accent lighting and lampshades! It adds such a bespoke touch that feels unexpected. It can break up all the strong lines a room has and soften it.

So what do you think? Do you feel the fun-ness of it? Would you do it? I’m going to be keeping my eyes out for all things scalloped furniture. Fingers crossed!

Hugs,
