The Everygirl Hand Lettering Course is Open!

The Hand Lettering course I created in collaboration with The Everygirl is now live on their website! We've been low key working on this course for months (seriously, like since May?) and it is SUCH a joy to be able to release it before the holiday season. So much heart and thought went into creating this course and I crafted the content it with you in mind. I want to cover all the most asked questions- Who is this course for, sign up details, what you can expect, background information and more.

It is funny to think of the life that has taken place since we started this course— we got started with our IVF transfer process that lead to one cancelled transfer and one failed transfer (cue wild hormone roller coaster). We also moved back to Michigan which lead to us preparing our home to be listed, listing it, and selling it. We became pregnant and miscarried and moved all during this time. All along you’ve been there— supporting me, encouraging me, sending love, and being a good friend. I am so utterly thankful for your kindness.

let’s dive in

Three years ago I started dreaming of teaching a hand lettering workshop. I was in my 6th year of teaching and I deeply felt this pull to create an experience for folks to get connected and have some fun with a new skill. I had taught myself how to transform my cursive to a modern calligraphy look after spending hours on Pinterest, YouTube, and Google. I’d seek out new instagram accounts and spend hours watching them letter. It was apparent they knew something I didn’t and their practice and knowledge showed.

But I kept playing around and I started to think of lettering like a lesson plan. How could I deliver instruction and make it incredibly user friendly and approachable? I created my first workbook and taught my first workshop to a group of my close teacher friends. I knew these gals were crucial in helping me make sure I was being clear enough with my learning targets and goals (true teacher talk right here). To break it down further— I was actually teaching you how to letter and giving you the tools and tricks to do it versus just giving you a fun activity to complete in an hour.

I started to continue giving workshops in small groups and expanded to local boutiques. Each workshop was like an adrenaline rush full of pure joy. I felt elated and the connection and magic that was happening felt so tangible. I would leave smiling, hugging students, and saying “let’s keep in touch.” I felt so passionate and energized about the workshops. They reminded me about the magic of community and groups coming together to have fun and learn a new skill.

I started to get lots of message from out of town and out of state gals asking for an online workshop. I just couldn’t fathom how I could create the in-person magic online? Also, to be incredibly transparent, the technical and technology aspect was a real roadblock for me. It felt like such a time suck and energy drain to try and create all the content needed for an online workshop when I have a brain that doesn’t fully connect and integrate with the power of the internet.

Even when we moved across the country to Arkansas I continued to do workshops. Those workshops helped me get connected with so many women and amazing folks in our new area. Shop owners, students, folks in the community, it helped plugged me into the new area we were living. Then IVF came and the issues of 2020 quickly followed and I felt so weary and tired.

The need for an online workshop was apparent and when The Everygirl reached out to create one together my heart almost exploded! I was humbled and honored they thought of me to partner for this project and I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough! You, my dear friend, were at the front of my mind when I created this course. It’s packed full of tips and tricks and layered with my usual cheesy jokes and encouragement.

Let’s Chat Details

Who is this course for?

I created for beginners and folks looking to get started and learn more about lettering. I created the workbook to be super approachable and beginner friendly. All I require is a pencil (or any writing utensil!). I created with a rainbow of women in mind— for the gals who think they’re not creative, or the gals who are looking to seek out some creativity. For a project during quarantine, or an outlet to get lost in. For gal pals to have some fun together, for mamas, grandmamas, daughters, and friends. I’ve had the ages in my class range from 8 years old to 80 years old.

what tools do i need?

Pencil and paper and your computer! Being able to print off the workbook is pretty crucial (of course) and I’m teaching tips and tricks for lettering that allow you to use any writing utensil. I chat some fancier ones at the end, but a pencil is all you need to get started. The entire course is pre-recorded and broken down into bite sized modules to guide you through the whole process.

where can I get tickets?

Great question! Tickets are sold here at The Everygirl website.

when can i get tickets?

Tickets will be sold December 8th to December 22nd. You will have access to the course for one year!

when does the course start?

As soon as you snag your ticket you are set to start! Since the videos are all pre-recorded you get to choose what pace you want and when you want to complete it.

what if i’m not creative?

Friend, you can do this. I have taught countless workshops and every single class I have a gal who claims she’s not creative. This is an outlet for you to have some fun and try something new. You can make it whatever you want it to be.

As always, thanks for being here and hanging out. Your kindness and support is so so felt.

Hugs & happy holidays,

Meredith
